NT Transport Subsidy Scheme

This scheme provides eligible members with a subsidy of half of the total fare.

** This means you can pay half of your fare using an electronic smart card. You then have to pay the other half of the taxi fare in cash, credit or debit card.
** There are five categories of benefit A, B, B-MPV, C and D. Eligibility for each category is based on a medical assessment.

** Your application may be approved on a permanent or temporary basis depending on your disability or inability to use public transport.
** If approved, you will be sent information about how the scheme works along with an electronic smartcard.
** Members can travel throughout the NT.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible for NTTSS membership you must be a resident of the Northern Territory. You will be required to provide proof of your permanent residential address e.g. current Centrelink card, rates notice or utilities account i.e. Jacana (within the last six months).

You must be unable to safely use public transport due to one of the following criteria :
** dependence on a wheelchair or mobility device for all mobility outside of the home
** significant mobility restrictions as the result of a permanent disability
** significant visual impairment in both eyes
** severe and uncontrollable epilepsy, with seizures involving loss of consciousness
** significant intellectual disability, memory or communication impairment
** significant psychiatric disability.

Membership

To apply for membership you must complete an application form and Doctor/Specialist or Allied Health Professional assessment. You must also provide two passport sized photographs (one certified).

List of Approved Persons :
** Aboriginal organisation committee member or chair
** Accountant
** Bank, credit union, building society officer
** Commissioner of Oaths
** Disability support organisation officer
** Government disability support officer
** Veterinary surgeon
** Justice of the Peace
** Lawyer/Solicitor/Barrister
** Magistrate/Judge
** Manager or Supervisor of a supported or aged care accommodation, or nursing home
** Manager or Supervisor of a community, cultural or remote resource centre

How to Apply?

To apply you must follow these steps :
Step 1 : Fill in the NT transport subsidy scheme application (899.4 kb) or call the transport subsidy scheme officer on (08) 8924 7229 to arrange for an application form to be mailed to you.

Step 2 : Complete part A of the application.
Step 3 : Attach two passport size photographs (one must be certified).
Step 4 : Provide proof of residency – for example
** Power and Water Corporation account or rates notice less than six months old
** current NT driver licence
** a photocopy of both sides of a current Centrelink card showing your residential address.

Step 5 : Visit a medical practitioner or allied health professional and have them complete part B of the application.
