How possible is it to grant an employee a one-month leave to accompany a patient according to Federal Law No (11) for 2008 on Federal Government Human Resources?
As per Article (59) Federal Law No (11) for 2008 on Federal Government Human Resources,
“The Minister, or whoever he authorizes, may grant a national employee a full paid exceptional leave for a period not exceeding two months to accompany any of his relatives up to the second degree, receiving medical treatment abroad based on a medical report from an official medical authority.
The period of leave may be extended, upon approval of the Minister, whoever he authorizes for another two months, if circumstances so require”.
The leave is granted on the following grounds :
(1) a medical report issued by a recognized medical facility inside the UAE confirming the patient’s need for an accompanying person abroad,
(2) leaves for accompanying patients must be approved by the competent Minister. If an employee was on annual leave while travelling abroad with a relative for treatment, the leave will then not be considered as patient accompanying leave, and the matter will be referred to the Minister, along with required documents, to take actions he deems fit.
