Yellow Cab Scheme :
The scheme has been launched to provide a decent livelihood to the educated unemployed youth. 20,000 cabs (60% Mehran & 40 % Bolan) will be delivered to applicants meeting the eligibility criteria approved by the provincial cabinet.
The scheme is gender neutral – open for women.
The quota for each tehsil will be on the basis of population. There is a 40% excess quota for the Southern Punjab.

** Matric
** Valid driving license
** 21 to 35 years of age
** Unemployed
** Assets below Rs. 2 million
** Not defaulter of bank, No criminal record
** 15 days driver’s training
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that government was implementing various programmes for empowerment and provision of employment opportunities to youths and that Yellow Cab Scheme will be started in the month of October this year under which 50,000 vehicles will be given to unemployed youths on soft terms and conditions.According to a handout, the chief minister expressed these views while presiding over a meeting that reviewed proposals for the launch of Yellow Cab Scheme under the Self-Employment Programme. MPAs Ayesha Ghaus Pasha and Sheikh Alauddin and officials concerned attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that a transparent and computerised system would be adopted for distribution of vehicles under the Yellow Cab Scheme and the government would also give subsidy on these vehicles. He said that youths were being empowered through provision of employment opportunities and that the Punjab government had initiated several programmes for their empowerment. He said that soft-term loans were also being given to them under the Self- Employment Programme for establishing their own businesses and thousands of youth have benefited from this revolutionary programme.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also presided over a meeting of the Punjab Metro Bus Authority, which approved its budget for 2014-15 fiscal.
According to another handout, the meeting also gave approval to purchase of 68 buses for the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project besides necessary measures with regard to execution of orange line metro train project.
He said that Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project would be completed by the end of this year while foundation stone of Multan Metro Bus Project would be laid on August 14. The Punjab Metro Bus Authority managing director gave a detailed briefing to the participants of the meeting.
According to another handout, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the government has announced the biggest Annual Development Programme (ADP) in the history of the province for the current fiscal year and record funds of Rs 345 billion have been allocated for development projects. He said that huge resources of Rs 119 billion have been earmarked for the development of various districts of South Punjab and that hard work and professionalism was required to achieve the targets of the ADP.
The price will remain constant throughout the scheme, (Rs. 427,000 for Mehran and Rs. 529,000 for Bolan)

Cabs are being leased through BOP. Applicants are selected through computerized balloting
The verification of credentials is carried out by the District Verification Committee (DVC) headed by the DCO. There is a Grievance Redressal Committees at the divisional level.
Driving training is provided by NLC, Motor way Police, Daewoo, Punjab Police; 19000 applicants have been trained so far
So far 13800 cabs have been distributed and the 20,000 target will be achieved by Jul15, 2012. The total financial outlay is Rs.10.5 billion.
