Omani ID Card :

An ID card is to be issued for any Omani who is above fifteen (15) years of age. This will be obligatory for males and optional for s as per Article (42) of the Civil Status Law.

The ID card that the General Directorate of Civil Status issues depends on essential standards : technology of electronic transfer of the holder’s fingerprint and storing it on the electronic chip fitted on the card. This electronic chip consists of a micro-computer capable of processing data and storing it. It contains the holder’s photo and his/her fingerprint. It has been introduced by the General Directorate of Civil Status – ROP, to keep abreast of the widely used Information Technology in the developed countries, for its simple use and numerous advantages.

Required Documents to apply for an ID Card :
Issuing ID card for first time :
** Filled in Application form.
** Copies and original of applicant’s birth certificate and passport .
** Copies of parents’ ID cards or passport.
** Letter from the sheikh or chief of the district approved by the wali if the passport and the parents ID cards are not available.
** One (1) personal photographs with blue background.

Renewing ID card :
Delivering the present expired ID card.

Fess :
RO (5) for new issuance (for first time).
RO (5) for Renewing.
RO (10) for damaged/lost

Be aware :
While you are signing electronically on the card, you should consider the following :
** Hold the pen gently and press on it while writing.
** Sign between the two parallel lines (do not touch them or write above them).
** Your signature should be clear enough to appear on the card.

During digital photography :
** Make sure that you are wearing your national dress (turban and dishdasha). This will enable you to get your ID card on time.
** Sit straight and face the camera lens.
** Don’t wear any glasses. Otherwise, the flash will reflect on the glasses and your picture will not be clear.
