University of Melbourne Support grants for students affected by COVID-19 and associated travel restrictions.

In recognition of the financial impact experienced by students affected by COVID-19 and associated travel restrictions, the University of Melbourne is offering support grants to affected students.

Student Support Grants (COVID-19) are intended to help students with unanticipated expenses incurred as a result of COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Student Support Grant (COVID-19) you must
** Have been outside of Australia in a location specified in the Australian Government COVID-19 travel restrictions at the time those restrictions were instituted, and

** Have incurred unexpected costs as a result of the travel restrictions, and
** Be enrolled in subjects, or granted a deferral (commencing students), or granted leave of absence (returning students).

When To Apply?

You can apply any time until 31 August 2020.

How To Apply?

To apply for a support grant, you will need to complete a short application form which will require the following information

** Your personal details and a short statement of your circumstances
** Digital copies of receipts (eg scan or photo) for costs incurred. Receipts do not need to be translated into English.

If you are unsure whether the grant will cover particular items, please include these details in your application and we will assess each item on a case-by-case basis.

Online Application

Steps :
Step 1 : To begin, click on “Start a submission” at the top left-hand side of this page. If you have previously registered with SmartyGrants for another program or application, enter your email address and password under “Login”. Otherwise click the Register button to create a new account.

Step 2 : On every screen (page of the form) you will find a Form Navigation contents box. This links directly to every page of the form. Click the link to jump directly to the page you want.

Step 3 : You can also click ‘next page’ or ‘previous page’ on the top or bottom of each page to move forward or backward through the application form.

Step 4 : If you wish to leave a partially completed application, press ‘save and close’ and log out. When you log back in and click on the ‘My Submissions’ link at the top of the screen, you will find a list of any forms you have started or submitted. You can reopen your draft application and start where you left off.

Step 5 : You can also download any form, whether draft or completed, as a PDF. Click on the ‘Download PDF’ button located at the bottom of the last page of the application form.

Step 6 : You will find a Review and Submit button at the bottom of the Navigation Panel. You need to review your application before you can submit it.

Step 7 : Once you have submitted your application, no further editing or uploading of support materials is possible.

When you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email with a copy of your submitted form attached. This will be sent to the email you used to register.

Note :
If you do not receive a confirmation of submission email then you should presume that your submission has NOT been submitted.

Grant Details

The total amount payable to each student, up to AU$7,500, will be based on your individual circumstances and costs incurred.

Eligible expenses may include :
** Costs for temporary accommodation or loss of permanent accommodation
** Unrecoverable costs associated with necessary flight changes
** Costs associated with temporary self-isolation

** Essential technology such as hardware or software to facilitate flexible learning to allow students in some courses to commence or continue studying remotely in Semester 1

** Cost of study materials relating to subjects now deferred
** Other related incidentals such as storage costs for personal belongings in Australia.

Travel support for Graduate researchers is available through the Emergency Support Fund.

Outcomes

Applications will be assessed on a weekly basis and outcomes will be provided within three weeks. We ask for your patience at this time as we are assessing a large volume of applications. You will be notified of your application outcome via your student email.

Once your application is approved, payments will be made to your Australian bank account within two weeks. If you do not have an Australian bank account, we can wait until you have opened one or make other arrangements.
