2. Inheritance Certificate FAQ :
1. Why do I need to apply for an inheritance certificate?
The Inheritance Certificate facilitates the distribution of the deceased’s estate according to Muslim Law. It is required by the Public Trustee. It is also required by the Subordinate Courts when applying for Grant of Letters of Administration or Grant of Probate.
2. How can I apply for Inheritance Certificate?
Syariah Court is the only institution that is empowered to issue inheritance certificate. You may apply for an Inheritance Certificate online only through our website. When providing information, please ensure that the deceased’s name is correctly keyed in as reflected in the death certificate. Similarly, the beneficiaries’ names and identity card numbers should be keyed in as reflected in their identity cards. Entering the correct information is vital as the applicant will have to re-apply for a new certificate to reflect any amendments and is subject to payment of prescibed fees.
3. How can I find out who are entitled to the deceased’s estate?
To know the beneficiaries of the deceased, you may do a quick check by clicking on “trial calculation” in our website under the inheritance segment.
4. Is there payment for the application of an Inheritance Certificate
Successful application involves a fee of $46. Payment must be made before the Inheritance Certificate is issued to the applicant.
5. When can I collect the Inheritance Certificate?
The Inheritance Certificate will only be issued to the applicant on the day of payment, within Syariah Court’s operating hours. The online application will automatically expire if payment is not received within 14 days from the date of your application (includes Weekends and public holidays). When this happens, a fresh online application must be made if you still need the certificate.
6. What do I need to bring with me when I collect the Inheritance Certificate?
You must bring along the following documents (both original and photocopy) on the date of collection – your identify card/passport
** the print-out of your online application acknowledgement page
** the deceased’s death certificate
** Documents to prove your relationship with the deceased ie birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc – fees of $46 (NETS or cashCard only) $34 for the Inheritance Certificate and $12 for the Statutory Declaration
7. If I am the applicant, can I authorise someone else to collect the certificate on my behalf?
