New Work Permit Application :
The following is the procedure for work permit(s) application for expatriate(s) in the upstream petroleum industry.

A. Submission Of Application Form And Related Documents :
A completely filled Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Work Permit Application Form MUST be submitted to the Petroleum Commission with the following documents :
** Cover Letter – Employer
** Bio Data Page of Prospective Employee’s Passport – Applicant
** Valid Tax Clearance Certificate of Company – GRA/IRS
** Company’s Certificate of Registration – Registrar General’s Department, Ghana
** Company’s Certificate of Incorporation – Registrar General’s Department , Ghana
** Company’s Certificate for Commencement of Business – Registrar General’s Department , Ghana
** Medical Report of Prospective Employee – Home Country
** Police Report of Prospective Employee – Home Country
** Professional and Educational Certificate – Applicant
** Employment Contract – Employer (i.e. the Company)
** Evidence of Effort made to Recruit a Ghanaian – Local newspapers, Company’s website etc.
Note :
(i) Applicants (i.e. Co officers, individuals) may be invited for interviews
(ii) The Cover letter must provide extensive justification for the employment of the expatriate by the Company
(iii) The Police report of the prospective employee MUST NOT be more than one (1) year old
(iv) The Medical Report of the prospective employee MUST NOT be more than two (2) years old
(v) The Commission will work closely with all Government agencies to ensure strict compliance with all statutory regulations. Companies or persons failing to satisfy the Commission’s work permit application requirements will have their application refused.
B. Assessment And Evaluation Of Application :
The Commission will review all applications and may carry out site/facility inspections.
The outcome of the review could be any of the following :
(i) Application refused
(ii) Additional information required
(iii) Application forwarded to GIS with a recommended term of permit
C. Issuance Of Permit :
(i) Application to be submitted at the offices of the Petroleum Commission
(ii) Application is forwarded to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) with a covering letter from the Commission attached thereto
(iii) GIS informs the Commission when work permits have been granted and Commission picks up permits from GIS
(iv) Commission then informs Companies to pick up work permits
Note :
(i) All communications to the Commission MUST be on company’s official letter head.
(ii) Application for the work permit MUST be made by the corporate head of the company or an authorized representative.
