This permit is to control and regulate imported goods from outside SACU region, Malawi and Zimbabwe

The Department issues Import Permits for goods imported from outside Southern African Customs Union (SACU). Goods from Malawi and Zimbabwe also do not require an import permit because of preferential agreements that Botswana has with these two countries.Goods imported for personal use, gifts, and trade samples do not require an Import Permit.The permit expires after six months.

It can also expire when the importer has exhausted the transaction value (estimated total) as stipulated in the permit. The permit fee is P50.00 (for goods other than bread loaves and pie pastries) and P100. 00 (for bread loaves and pie pastries). The permit can be processed in one day for an error free application made through Application Form 1C.2.

The Department has offices in Gaborone; the issuance of import permits is now decentralized. The permit can now be processed at outstations from the offices of the Department of Cooperatives Development at Serowe, Selibe Phikwe, Francistown, Kasane, Maun, Ghanzi, Tsabong, Kanye and Molepolole.
