To celebrate its ten-year global partnership with TV broadcasters and the role they play to advance the disaster risk reduction agenda, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) is looking for the best disaster documentaries produced on the issue since 2005.

UNISDR invites TV broadcast companies worldwide to enter their submission to the film awards at the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan in March 2015.

UNISDR is particularly interested in documentaries that showcase:
1. Captivating human stories of courage, strength and disaster resilience
2. Investigative stories on past disaster or disasters waiting to happen
3. Innovative stories about disaster risk reduction solutions UNISDR is looking for documentaries which contain at least one element of disaster risk reduction, such as a feature on early warning systems, community resilience, response, preparedness, resilient infrastructure, disaster recovery plan, urban planning, lessons learned about past disasters, and school and hospital reconstruction.

A film committee comprising professional TV broadcasters and UNISDR representatives will select the three best films in each of the four following sections:
Category one: The best human disaster risk reduction story
Category two: The best investigative disaster risk reduction story
Category three: The best innovative disaster risk reduction story
Category four: The very best film on disaster risk reduction
