Scheme for Management/Provision of Technical Instruments

Aim:
The management/provision (through lending), storage and maintenance of technical means and instruments as well as other aids returned by the beneficiaries of the “Scheme for Financial Assistance for the Purchase of Technical Means, Instruments and other Aids for Persons with Disabilities”.

Beneficiaries:
Cypriot and EU citizens provided that they live permanently in the area controlled by the Republic of Cyprus for at least 12 consecutive months and they experience severe motor, sensory or other disabilities.

Terms for the grant:
1. Second hand technical instruments are lent to the beneficiaries upon proposal of the committee that shall examine the applications;
2. Priority should be given depending on the severity of the disability and the degree of satisfaction of both the specific objective (movement, employment, health, subsistence) and the general objective which is independence;
3. Technical means, instruments etc. shall be provided on an individual basis and serve and belong to the beneficiary and not to institutions, organisations, schools or others. In case such instruments or means are not used or in case the beneficiary passes away, they should be returned to the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.
4. Following lending of the instruments and means, the beneficiary shall be exclusively responsible for their maintenance.

Applications:
1. Persons interested in participating in the scheme shall submit their application together with the relevant supporting documents, to the Director of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, using a special application form;
2. The applications shall be examined by a special committee presided by the Director of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities or by an authorised Officer and formed by representatives of other government services, as well as by representatives of the Cyprus Confederation of Organisations of the Disabled (CCOD), where appropriate. Applications are approved by the Director of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities;
3. During the processing of the application, the committee may request the applicant to be present personally.

About Us :
The Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities has been established as from 1.1.2009, according to the Ministers’ Council Decision n. 66.763 dated 6.2.2008, as a new Department of the Ministry and Social Insurance.

The Department operated, at the beginning, with seconded and interchangeable staff since its permanent posts were not filled. The process for the filling of the vacant posts was completed for the posts of Director, Senior Social Inclusion Officer and six posts of Social Inclusion Officer, whereas the process for the posts of Social Inclusion Officer A’ and eight posts of Assistant Social Inclusion Officer is pending.
