Darwazah Student Innovation Contest :
The Darwazah Student Innovation Contest is organized and sponsored by the Darwazah Center for Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship of the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business.

The contest is open to all AUB undergraduate and graduate students who are invited to submit a proposal for an innovative product, service, or business process. The competition encourages students from different disciplines and backgrounds to collaborate and share knowledge amongst each other in order to come up with an innovative business idea. The contest will also offer students the opportunity and experience to see what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur.
Prizes:
$15,000 will be awarded to the winning team
$5,000 will be awarded to the 1st runner-up team
All members of the finalist teams will be awarded certificates of achievement as well as plaques (up to 8 teams will qualify to the final round).
Eligibility:
All team members must be current AUB undergraduate or graduate students
There is NO limit or restriction on the number of team members; teams typically range from one to five members
Team members cannot be in more than one team
Rounds:
Round 1: Registration and Initial Proposal
All interested applicants can submit an online application which includes:
1. A Team Information section that asks general and contact information about each of team members
2. An Initial Proposal section, fillable online. This proposal addresses topics, including but not limited to: business purpose and product/service description, market opportunity, market (size, customer profile, and competition), etc.
Round 2: Detailed Proposal
Up to 20 selected teams will qualify for round 2 and will be invited to a 1-day training workshop. Applicants have 2 weeks after to submit a well written proposal. More details will be provided at the time.
Round 3: Pitch to Jury and Final Award Ceremony
Up to 8 teams will be selected for the final round. All selected teams are expected to prepare a 30 minutes pitch in front of a panel of judges. Judges will look at several criteria, one winning team will be chosen for the $15,000 award and a runner-up team will be selected for the $5,000 award. The final ceremony will follow.
Important Dates and Deadlines:
December 15, 2014: Online application will be open for registration and submission.
February 15, 2015: Deadline for registration and submission of initial proposal.
March 10, 2015: Tentative date for announcement of semi-finalists.
March 14, 2015: Tentative date for training workshop for semi-finalists.
March 31, 2015: Deadline for submission of detailed proposal.
April 22, 2015: Tentative date for announcement of finalists.
May 8, 2015: Final ceremony and distribution of awards.
