Malaysian International Passport:
1. Introduction:
The Malaysian International Passport is a valid travel document issued by the Malaysian Government for the purpose of travelling abroad.
Eligibility : Malaysian citizen.
2. Where to Apply:
Any Immigration Office or Malaysian Representative Office.
3. Malaysian Passport Photographs Specification:
2 recent identical photographs taken in front of plain white or off-white background size 35mm x 50mm
Size such that the head is between 25mm –30mm from the bottom of the chin to the top of head
Dark coloured clothing covering shoulders and chest
Taken in full-faces view directly facing the camera with a neutral facial expression, both eyes open and mouth closed
Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures that hair or hairline unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face
4. Validity:
Valid for two (2) years or five (5) years from the date of issue.
The balance of the expiry period from the old passport can only be granted to the new 5-year passport provided it is:-
Not a lost case
Not a damaged pasport (in good condition)
Not a case under investigation
5. Passport Fees:
RM100.00 for 2 years
RM300.00 for 5 years
6. Special Fees:
RM150.00 for 5 years
7. Eligibility for special Fees:
Children under 12 years old
Students under 21 years old with proof to study abroad on the day of submission.
8. Exemption of payment:
Exemption of payment is given to the handicapped or disabled person on condition that he/she produces a letter from the Welfare Department.
9. Modes of payment:
Cash
Postal Order or Crossed Bank Draft :
In Malaysia – made payable to the Director- General of Immigration Malaysia or State Immigration Director only.
Overseas – made payable to the High Commissioner of Malaysia/ Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia/ Malaysian Ambassador/ Malaysian Consulate General (where applicable)
10. How to Apply For a Passport:
The applicant must:-
Appear in person at the Immigration office or Malaysian Representative Offices abroad.
General:
The usage of ‘anak lelaki (AL)’ and ‘anak perempuan (AP)’ for Indian and non-muslim citizens on the main page has been removed but is still stated on the ‘OBSERVATION’ page.
Please note that passports that are not claimed after three (3) months from the date of collection as stated in the payment receipt will be cancelled and the fee paid is non-refundable. The applicant will have to submit a new application and it will be processed in the normal way.
Particulars of children (including infants) will no longer be included in the parent’s passport. The child will be issued a separate passport. A change of photograph for children two years and above can be made. Submit two recent photographs and the birth certificate (original and copy) attached. The applicant must appear before the Immigration officer.
Under the Guardianship Act 1961 – 1999 amendment, consent can be given by the mother for a child under 18 years old.
Loss of passport while abroad should be reported to the nearest Malaysian Representative Office for replacement of passport. A police report should be submitted also.
An application for replacement of lost passport should be sent to the Immigration Department of Malaysia Headquarters, Putrajaya Malaysia for decision-making/processing which will take approximately 3-4 months.
