Short & Long Term Social Visit Pass :

Long Term Social Visit Pass:
** The Long Term Social Visit pass may be issued to a foreigner for a temporary stay in Malaysia for a period of not less than six months. Extensions of the period of stay can be given based on the eligibility and fulfilment of certain conditions.

** Foreign husbands/wives to Malaysians can be given the Social Visit Pass for a period of 5 years on condition that they comply with all the requirements.
** They are also allowed to engage in any form of paid employment or in any business or professional occupation without converting the Social Visit Pass to the Employment Pass or Visitor’s Pass (Temporary employment).

Short Term Social Visit Pass:
1. The Short term social visit pass is given to foreign visitors upon arrival for the following purposes:
** Social visit
** Visiting relatives
** Tourism
** Journalism / Reporting
** Meeting / Conference
** Business Discussion
** Factory Inspection
** Auditing Company Accounts
** Signing Agreement
** Carrying out a survey on investment opportunities/setting up factory
** Attending Seminars
** Students on goodwill missions or taking examinations at a university
** Taking part in sports competitions
** Other activities approved by the Director General of Immigration.

2. Extension of Social Visit Pass:
An Extension may be given on Special consideration e.g. due to illness, accident, war in home country etc. The visitor must furnish evidence, and also present a confirmed return ticket to their home country or third country.

3. Required Documents:
** Applicants must appear in person together with passport
** Form IMM.55
** Supporting documents (if relevant)
** Confirmed ticket to home country or in possession of a visa and ticket to a third country

My friend from abroad wishes to seek treatment in a Specialist Hospital in Malaysia and would like to know how long he is allowed to stay in the country?
Foreigners who wish to seek treatment at Government Hospitals or Specialist Hospitals can enjoy the Extended Social Visit Pass on a 6 month to 6 month basis.

Can a Social Visit Pass be extended for a longer period?
Children of Malaysian citizens are eligible to apply for extension of the Social Visit Pass on a 6 month to 6 month basis.

What happens to the Entry Permit if a person leaves the country?
Entry Permit holders must apply for entry permit confirmation notice at the State Immigration Office.

What is the fee for the Entry Permit? Can be paid in cash?
RM120.00 in the form of Money Order or Bank Draft made payable to the Director General of Immigration, Malaysia.

How long should my wife wait for the approval of an Entry Permit?
Approval of the Entry Permit is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Malaysia and awarded to foreigners who are eligible to apply. The approval process is not tied to a particular period.

What is the Entry Permit?
The Entry Permit is a document (Imm.5) issued under Section 4, of the Immigration Regulations 1959/63. The Entry Permit allows one to enter and live without limits in Malaysia and is the status of PermanentResidence.

Having gained the entry permit, your wife can apply for an identification card at the National Registration Department (NRD).
