Currently Entry Passes issued are :
Dependant Pass :
This is a Pass issued to a foreigner other than a Prohibited Immigrant who is a legal Dependant of a citizen of the United Republic of Tanzania or of any foreigner residing in the United Republic of Tanzania who is in possession of a valid permit upon application by such persons.
An applicant for a dependant pass should be a citizen of the United Republic of Tanzania
Before approving an application for a Dependant Pass, the Issuing Officer has to be satisfied that :
** the Dependant is the wife, child, or near relative of the applicant and is dependant on the applicant for his maintenance, and
** the applicant is able to provide and to continue to provide adequate accommodation for such Dependant, and
** the applicant has an assured income sufficient to enable him to maintain adequately such Dependant.
Entry Passes :
Other than Residence Permits a foreigner intending to enter and reside in the United Republic of Tanzania may be issued with an Entry Pass subject to the conditions provided under the Immigration Regulations of 1997.
Note :
An applicant for any foreigner residing in the United Republic of Tanzania who is in possession of a valid permit. A Dependant Pass shall not be renewed in respect of a male person over the age of eighteen years unless it is authorized by the Minister responsible for Immigration matters, or on the opinion of the Principal Commissioner of Immigration Services such a male is through age, infirmity or sickness unable to support himself.
Application Requirements For Dependant Pass :
An application for a Dependant Pass should be accompanied with :
** application Form duly filled in;
** a copy of the Dependant’s passport valid for not less than a year;
** applicant’s valid passport (for both an applicant who is a citizen or a foreigner;
** applicant’s valid Residence Permit;
** proof of relationship of the applicant and the Dependant;
** proof of the applicant’s ability to provide accommodation and means of subsistence and
** six passport size photographs

In–Transit Pass :
This is a pass issued at entry points to foreigners other than Prohibited Immigrants who desires to enter the United Republic of Tanzania for the purpose of passing through to a destination outside the United Republic of Tanzania provided that, he is in possession of a valid documents to enable him enter the country of his destination and is qualified under the law of that country to be allowed entry. An In-transit Pass is issued for a period not exceeding fourteen days and shall expire if the holder undertakes any employment, trade, business or professional engagement in the United Republic.
Special Pass :
** This is a Pass issued to any foreigner other than Prohibited Immigrant living in or entering the United Republic of Tanzania in order to afford such a foreigner :
** An opportunity of making an inquiry for the purpose of determining whether such foreigner is entitled to a residence permit or is entitled to remain in or enter the United Republic of Tanzania.
** A reasonable opportunity of applying for and obtaining a residence permit or a pass other than Special Pass or of completing any immigration formality.
Visitor’s Pass :
This is a pass issued to any prospective visitor who is a foreigner other than a Prohibited Immigrant upon satisfying the issuing officer that he wishes to enter the United Republic of Tanzania for the purpose of
** Spending a holiday;
** Travelling;
** Appearing before the Courts of Law;
** Obtaining treatment by a registered medical practitioner;
** Other sufficient reasons.
Note :
a Visitor’s Pass is issued for a period not exceeding ninety days and not exceeding six months for citizens of East African Community Partner States. A holder of a Visitor’s Pass is not allowed to engage in any employment, trade, business, or profession.
Re- entry Pass :
This is a pass issued to any foreigner other than a Prohibited Immigrant who resides in the United Republic of Tanzania to allow such a person to re–enter after a journey to any place outside the United Republic of Tanzania and it is issued for such period not exceeding the validity of the permit or the pass issued to such foreigner.
Landing Pass :
This is a Pass issued to any foreigner other than a Prohibited Immigrant who is a member of crew possessing a Crew Card or other acceptable Identity Card or an in – transit passenger possessing a valid travel document, having arrived in the United Republic of Tanzania by Sea or Lake in the course of continuous and unbroken journey through the United Republic of Tanzania and desires to disembark from the ship or vessel to go ashore for the purpose of sight – seeing or for any other sufficient reason for the period such ship or vessel will be in the port.
Note :
A Landing Pass entitles the holder and if particulars of his wife and children (if any) have been endorsed such wife and children to disembark from such ship or vessel to go ashore for such period not exceeding one month as provided in the Landing Pass and that the person issued with such Pass is bound to remain within the area of the town from the port of which he has disembarked.
Issuance Of Carrying On Temporary Assginment (CTA) Pass :
Who may be issued with the CTA PASS :
** This pass may be issued to any foreigner wishing to enter into Tanzania and engage in any lawful gainful activity such as business, trade, profession or special assignment for a period not exceeding three months.
** Issuance of CTA PASS to Citizens of the East African Partner States
** A citizen of the East African Partner State who is lawfully present in the country and has acquired employment for a period not exceeding ninety days as stipulated in the Regulation 6 (4) of the Annex II of the Protocol on the Establishment of the East African Community Common Market or who has entered the country and intends to pursue economic activities or set up and manage economic undertakings in the country may be issued with the Carrying on Temporary Assignment (CTA) Pass upon fulfilling the requirements stipulated under Regulation 6 (1) and (2) of Annex III of the Protocol on the Establishment of the East African Community Common Market.
** The CTA is issued to a foreigner upon lodging an application for the same on arrival at specified entry points or thereafter at the Immigration Headquarters Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar Immigration Head Office or Regional Immigration Office as the case may be. A prescribed fee of USD ($) 200 is payable to that effect.
** CTA Pass may be issued at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Amani Abeid Karume International Airport (AAKIA), Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), Namanga, Horohoro, Sirari, Mutukula and Tunduma
