STEPS TO GET PASSPORT STATUS THROUGH SMS SERVICE :

In another step towards digitalization to facilitate passports seekers and in the light of the directions issued by Minister for Interior, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, during his visit of the Directorate General Immigration and Passport, It has now launched a Short Message Service (SMS) for its Passports seekers.

An individual desirous of knowing the status of processing of passport application can now send an SMS from his/her hand set by sending 11 digits Token Id , printed on Token Receipt, on a unique code 9988 and appropriate response will instantly appear in the following formats.

Step-A :
1st. SMS Description:
Passport Applicant wants to know the information about passport which is printed and dispatched to Regional Passport Office from Central Production Facility, Islamabad.
Dear Applicant,
Passport with Token Id (11 digits) is shipped in Box Id (11 digits) on Date (shipment date). Please contact passport office for collection.

Step-B :
2nd SMS Description:
Passport Applicant wants to know the information about passport which is in processing queue after all verification of Facial Recognition, Automated Fingerprints Identification System (AFIS) and ready for passport to be printed at Production Facility, Islamabad.
Dear Applicant,
Passport with Token Id (11 digits) is in Process. Please visit passport office or call Helpline 0800-34477 for further information.

Step-C :
3rd SMS Description:
Passport Applicant wants to know the information about passport which requires some more verification by processing units like Facial Recognition System, Fingerprints Processing or Regional Passport Officer has deferred the case on some solid ground.

Please visit passport office or call Helpline 0800-34477 for further information.

Step-D :
4th SMS Description:
Passport Applicant has provided an invalid Token Id comprising on characters, alpha numeric characters or digits greater than or less than 11 digits, An appropriate message will also appear to guide applicants to provide 11 digits Token Id printed on the Token receipt of the applicant.
Dear Applicant,
You have entered an invalid Token Id, please enter Token Id with 11 digits only.

DG (I&P) has provided an online access of disseminating passport information through SMS for those applicants who could not get passport despite of frequent visits for last six months to various passport offices.

SMS Service has been initiated for welfare of the Passport seekers. This service will now help to eliminate the unnecessary delays, repeated visits to the passport Offices and the involvement of third parties i.e. agents, touts and money makers who had a reputation of fleecing money from the passport seekers.

Launching of SMS would definitely help department to rebuild its lost image through providing relief to all passport seekers to get the status of their passports without manual intervention. Commencement of SMS Service for passport seekers in Pakistan is a revolutionary step of DG (I&P) for passport seekers who have no access and resources to visit passport Headquarter in Islamabad. Time is money and this facility will serve to save the time of the public and provide access to information at grass root level. Minister has formally inaugurated the launching of SMS Service on October 12th, 2013.
