Transfer Your Valid Visa Into New Passport
If you have renewed your passport (because it has expired, was lost/stolen or your name has changed), you will need to transfer your valid visa into your new passport as soon as possible.

Please note that this also includes Working Holiday Visas, e-visas and label-less visas which have been issued electronically (without a label), as the passport details on this visa MUST match the passport you are entering New Zealand with.
The new passport should be submitted for a label to be issued, which will replace the original e-visa letter.
To request a transfer of your visa, you will need to send the following documents to your nearest office:
Your old passport, if it is available:
If your old passport was lost/stolen, a copy of a police report is required, showing that the loss was reported
If your old passport was not returned to you with the new one, please provide a cover letter with your application advising of this
Please note: UK High Commission informed us that their expired passports will be returned (unless damaged) in a separate package, 7-10 days after your new passport is delivered. For more information, please contact the UK Passport advice line on 0044 0 300 222 000. If your travel is urgent, please apply for your Transfer of visa without waiting for the old passport to arrive, but provide a cover letter explaining the situation.
Irish Consulate states that the old passport will be cancelled and returned (unless any of the details on it were incorrect) with the new passport. For more information, you can contact them on 09 977 2252 or email consul@ireland.co.nz
Your new passport:
[If your name is different in your old passport] Evidence of name change (eg. certified copy of a marriage certificate or deed poll)
A completed Application for Transfer or Confirmation of a Visa (1023)
A processing fee
To find out the current transfer fee and which is your nearest processing office, please use our Office and Fees Finder.
Please Note:
If more than one family member is requesting a visa transfer at the same time (eg. applicant and/or partner, and/or child/ren), a separate completed application form and a separate fee is required for each person requesting a transfer.
Can I apply for a Transfer of Visa if I am outside of New Zealand?:
Yes you can. You will need to find your closest Immigration New Zealand office and forward your application and documents to them. To find your nearest office and find out their fees, payment methods and courier requirements, please use our Office and Fees Finder.
I am a New Zealand citizen now, but have a residence visa in my old foreign passport. Can I transfer this to my new foreign passport?
A residence visa (including permanent residence visas), cannot be transferred into a foreign passport, if you have since obtained NZ citizenship (by grant or descent) or have been issued with an evidentiary certificate of citizenship. This is because a New Zealand citizen is not able to hold a visa under the Immigration Act 2009.
In order to use your foreign passport for travel, and still be allowed to return to New Zealand as a citizen, you should apply for NZ Citizen Endorsement and not a transfer of visa.
