Need a valid ID to prove your age? We can help. The Australia Post Keypass identity card is an identification card showing your photo, name, address, date of birth and signature.

This card is accepted as proof of age for entry into licensed venues throughout Australia (excluding NSW and WA) which display a sign* saying they accept the card as proof of identity.

Eligibility:
To be eligible to apply for a Keypass (over-18) identity card, you must:
** be over the age of 17 years and 11 months
** live in Australia
** be able to provide sufficient proof of your identity and age

What if you’re under age?:
You can apply for a Keypass Under-18 card instead. It’s ideal for events like under-age gigs, concerts and festivals where you may need to show photo ID.

All cards expire after 5 years, or when you turn 18 (whichever comes first). If you still need an identity card after this date, you can apply for a new one.

Please note: If you’re under 17 years and 11 months old when you apply for a Keypass over-18 card, we’ll only be able to issue you with an Under-18 card.

Applying for a Keypass identity card:
Step 1: Complete an application form
Download the Keypass identity card application form (PDF). Print it out, fill it in (using black ink) and take it with you to your interview.

Step 2: Gather your identity documents
** You must be able to prove your age and identity by providing acceptable documentation. All documents must be original.

Step 3: Visit a participating Post Office for an interview
To find out which Post Offices conduct interviews for the Keypass identity card, you can either:

About the interview
To process your application, ensure you have all your proof of age and proof of identity documents. These must be originals. All documents will be photocopied and the originals returned to you.

A receipt for payment will be issued to you. Please retain the receipt until you receive your Keypass identity card.

At your interview, we’ll check your documentation is correct, confirm your identity and take a photo. The interview should take about 10 minutes.

What happens next?:
A secondary check will be performed within a week of the application.

If your application is successful, you’ll receive your Keypass identity card in the mail within 10 working days of your interview (average delivery time to metro areas is 2 working days).

If your application is unsuccessful, you’ll receive a letter stating the reason.
