Renewing Tax Online:
Renewing your motor tax online is straightforward. The process is broken down into a series of easy to understand steps.
After you login at the foot of the homepage using the PIN printed on your renewal/reminder form, you will be asked to:
** Confirm details of your vehicle – they will be displayed on the screen for you.
** Confirm your name and address – again, these will be shown on screen but you may notify us of a change of address.
** Enter your vehicle insurance details.
** Select the period of taxation.
** Enter your card details for payment.
Your tax disc will be issued by post within four working days. You can track the issue of your disc by clicking on the “Track Disc Issue” link on the homepage.
Remember to have the following items before starting your renewal:
** Your renewal/reminder form, containing your PIN and vehicle registration number, to log into the service. Please retain the RF100B form carefully – for security reasons, this PIN number cannot be issued by phone or email.
** Your vehicle insurance details (name of insurer, policy number and expiry date).
** Your payment card – MasterCard or Visa (including pre-paid vouchers).
First Taxing Of A New Or Imported Vehicle:
Taxing a new or imported vehicle is straightforward. You will need to have the following items before starting the process:
** Your RF100 form which you should have received either from your Motor Dealer or the Revenue Commissioners. This contains your vehicle registration number and Personal Identification Number (PIN) which are required to login to the service. Please retain the RF100 form carefully.
** Your vehicle insurance details (name of insurer, policy number and expiry date).
** Your payment card – MasterCard or Visa (including pre-paid vouchers)
Please note that the motor tax payable online for a new or imported vehicle is calculated from the beginning of the month of registration and online applications may only be made from the next working day after the vehicle has been registered.
If you have recently become the owner of a previously taxed vehicle you cannot use this facility. In these circumstances you can only tax the vehicle online if you have received a motor tax renewal reminder notice incorporating a special PIN for its purpose.
The process is broken down into a series of easy to understand steps:
** Login at the foot of this page using the vehicle registration number and the PIN, which is the last six characters of your vehicle’s chassis number, as printed on your RF100 form. For example, if your chassis number is KMHUD31LPXU478J27, your PIN is 478J27.
** Choose a tax class and confirm details of your vehicle – they will be displayed on the screen for you.
** Confirm your name and address – again, these will be shown on screen but you may record a change of address.
** Enter your vehicle insurance details.
** Select the period of taxation.
** Enter your card details for payment.
In the case of a second hand vehicle, you can retrieve your PIN by accessing the PIN Retrieval facility on the homepage.
Commercial Vehicles:
Owners of commercial vehicles may now renew their tax online, provided they have a current certificate of roadworthiness (valid from the beginning of the new licensing (taxing) period), and in the case of light goods vehicles (vehicles whose design gross vehicle weight is under 3,500 kg) the owner must have submitted form RF111A (declaration that the vehicle will only be used as a goods carrying vehicle in the course of the owners business) to the local motor tax office.
Form RF111A is available on our homepage under the link, Motor Tax Forms.
Where the requirements set out above are not met, vehicle owners will not receive a pin to renew their tax online, and must renew at the local motor tax office.
