How To Apply For International License in Bahamas?

Bahamian drivers in need of a licence for driving abroad can apply for an International Driver’s Licence. This licence is an authorized translation of a Bahamian driver’s licence into many languages. This licence is valid for one year.

Process:
The following steps are required when applying for an International Driver’s Licence:
** Complete and submit form and other supporting documents to the Road Traffic Department, Drivers Licence Unit.
** Upon verification of information, the Clerk will issue a bill to the applicant.
** Once payment has been received, the Cashier will issue a receipt of payment for the Clerk to process and issue the licence.

The Transport Policy and Planning Unit was formed by the Government of The Bahamas as an initiative to develop its policy and planning capabilities in the Transport Sector. The current focus of the unit is to deal with surface transport. The Road Traffic Department is committed to providing a safe, sustainable and efficient transportation system through the enforcement of laws, responsible management, education and outstanding employee performance.

Objectives:
** To formulate strategies aimed at reducing road related injuries and fatalities.
** To ensure a collaborative approach to address Road Safety.
** To encourage public participation and acquire views regarding improved regulations and the enforcement of road traffic rules and regulations.
** To encourage and promote best practices by road users.
** To make recommendations to amend the laws, regulations, policies and other measures the committee deem necessary for implementation by the Government of The Bahamas.
