PSV Permit/ License Process :

A PSV permit is a legal requirement for the operation of any PSV service in Barbados. Failure to comply with this requirement is subject to prosecution under law.

Initial Permit Steps:
The PSV Permit Process follows a five (5) step approach:
** Fill out Application Form – TA1 (Forms can be collected from ta office)
** Application Processing
** Applicant Interview
** Board of Directors decision
** Forward formal documentation in regards to the decision

Documents that must be produced with each initial permit application:
** An up-to-date Police Certificate of Character
** One passport sized photo of applicant (if a company-picture of managing director or representative)
** Current copy of relevant driving license

Transfer Permit Steps :
The PSV transfer permit process is the accepted process established under the Transport Authority. PSV operators or prospective operators are encouraged to utilize this process for the legal transfer of PSV permits from one entity to another.

The PSV Transfer Permit Process follows a five (5) step approach:
** Fill out requisite application forms – TA1 and TA2 (Forms can be collected from ta offices)
** Application Processing
** Transferee and Transferor interview
** Board of Directors decision
** Forward formal documentation in regards to the decision

Documents that must be produced with each transfer permit application:
** An up-to-date Police Certificate of Character
** One passport sized photo of applicant (if a company-picture of managing director or representative)
** Current copy of relevant driving license

PSV Categories and Relating Licenses :
There are nine general categories of PSV registration.
Type – Description :
BM – Omni-bus operated primarily by the Transport Board
BT – Omni-bus operated primarily as Tour Buses
B – Private Minibus operators

B-charities Schools, Churches, Charitable organization
ZR – Route Taxis
Z – Private Taxis 1-7 passengers
ZM – Private Taxis 8-14 passengers
H – Hire vehicle
HL – Hire Limos

The Transport Authority Mandate :
** The Transport Authority primary function is to plan, monitor and regulate the public transport system in Barbados.

Based on the provisions of the Transport Authority Act 2007-28 some of the primary functions are :
** to undertake planning for the public transport system
** to monitor and regulate the public transport system

** to issue, cancel, suspend licenses of drivers and conductors of public service vehicles
** to issue, suspend or revoke permits in respect of public service vehicles
** to restricts the use of motor omnibuses, minibuses and route taxis to specified routes

** to regulate and restrict the number of motor omnibuses minibuses and route taxis on specified routes
** to supervise the conduct of business in the passenger terminals
** to publish current information on public transport services

** to establish timetables to be observed by drivers and conductors of motor omnibuses minibuses and route taxis
** to determine the sitting of lay-by and the location of bus stops for the picking up and setting down of passengers using motor omnibuses, minibuses and route taxis
