If you’re eligible, your Christmas Bonus will usually be paid into your bank account by 15 December. If you have not received your payment by this time contact the Social Security Department.

Am I entitled to receive the Christmas Bonus?:
You’re entitled to receive the Christmas Bonus if you’re resident in Jersey and receive any of the following benefits from the Social Security Department:
** old age pension
** widow’s benefit
** survivor’s benefit
** invalidity benefit
** 100% disablement benefit
** 100% long term incapacity allowance
** incapacity pension
** income support – personal care level 2 or 3
** home carer’s allowance

What is the Christmas Bonus?:
The Christmas Bonus is an additional benefit of £83.73 that is paid to those who already receive certain benefits. If you receive a UK pension and receive a UK bonus of £10, your Christmas Bonus will be reduced.

Do I have to live in Jersey to receive the bonus?:
Yes, with effect from December 2011 the bonus will no longer be payable to anyone living outside the Island.

Do I need to apply for the bonus?:
No, application forms are no longer required as the bonus will be paid automatically to those who qualify.

How will I receive my payment?:
Your Christmas Bonus is paid directly into your bank account, you should receive your payment by 15 December. If you have not received your payment by this time ?contact the Social Security Department.

Food Costs Bonus :
What is it?
** The Food Costs Bonus is an annual payment to help households that are just above the Income Support level with the cost of GST on food. In 2016 the payment was £226.95.
** The Food Costs Bonus was provided in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
** Only one Food Costs Bonus may be claimed per household and applications are accepted in October each year.

What is a household?
** A household is defined in the same way as it is for Income Support purposes.
A household can be any of the following :
** a person living alone
** a couple (married or unmarried)
** a family living together at the same address with children under school leaving age or still in full time education or job-seeking

Who can claim?
A household can claim where :
** at least one adult member has been resident in Jersey for the last five years and;
** no-one in the household is liable to pay Income Tax for the previous year and;
** no member of the household, during the seven days before the application is made, has been in receipt of Income Support (but a household may still claim if they received an Income Support payment which was a transitional payment or special payment)
