The Attorney General is the principal legal adviser to the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan. He is assisted by the Solicitor General and counsel in advising the Government and representing the Government in civil and criminal cases.

The Attorney General is also responsible for the drafting of legislation. In carrying out the task of drafting the Attorney General’s Chambers work closely with other Government Ministries and Departments.
The Attorney General is vested with the power under the Constitution to institute, proceed and discontinue once instituted any criminal proceedings. All criminal prosecutions are instituted in the name of the Public Prosecutor. He is assisted by Deputy Public Prosecutors in the conduct of criminal trials held in the Supreme Court and the Subordinate Courts.
Apart from carrying out the above duties, the Attorney General’s Chambers also provides service to the public by maintaining the following Registries:

Business Introduction :
Under the Business Registration Act, “business” includes every form of trade, commerce, craftmanship, calling, profession and any activity carried on for the purposes of gain but does not include any office, employment or occupation, or any of the businesses specified in the First Schedule.
A business firm is either a sole-proprietorship or a partnership. Individuals and companies, being “legal persons”, may set up and own a business firm. A business firm, not being a legal entity, cannot register another business firm.
A foreign company also cannot register a business firm unless it has registered itself under the Companies Act.
Sole Proprietorship:
A sole-proprietorship is a business firm owned by one person or one company. There are no partners. The sole-proprietor has absolute say in the running of the business firm.
Partnership:
Partnerships may have between two and twenty partners. Once there are more than twenty partners, the business entity must be registered as a company under the Companies Act, Cap.39.
Company Introduction :
A company is a business entity registered under the Companies Act, Chapter 39. It has a legal personality i.e. it has rights to own properties, can sue or be sued. It usually has the words ‘Pte Ltd’ or ‘Ltd’ as part of its name.
How do I know if the company name xxxxx Sdn Bhd can be approved ?:
Registry will processes the name application and responds with outcome. A name will be rejected if it is identical to the name of another company or business. Undesirable names, including vulgar names, will also not be allowed.
Can I extend the reservation period of my approved name after the expiry date?:
The name reservation period can only be extended if the application is submitted before the expiry date. Only one extension is allowed.
What is issued capital?:
Issued capital refers to the share capital which has been allotted to the shareholders.
What is authorised share capital?:
Authorised share capital refers to the maximum share capital which a company is allowed to issue.
What is paid-up capital?:
Paid-up capital refers to the issued capital that is paid up by the shareholders.
