The e-portal provides easy, one-stop-shop access to exhaustive information about licensing requirements for business activities in Nepal. Here, Nepali businesses, large and small, can access detailed information on relevant business licenses and permits, including requirements, cost, application forms and contact details for relevant regulatory agencies.

This license portal is part of a broader set of initiatives undertaken by the Government of Nepal to improve the investment climate.

Licensing regime:
Nepal has institutional and legal framework required for registration of company, private firm and partnership firm. Public companies, private companies and company established with an objective of not distributing profits/ dividends are registered according to Company Act 2063 by Office of Company Registrar. Additionally, partnership and private firms need to register either in Department of Industry or Department of Cottage and Small Industries under Ministry of Industry or in Department of Commerce under Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, based on the nature of their business.

What is a license?:
A license is a government document that allows you to do an activity. There are many kinds of permits, authorizations, clearances, approvals, etc., and the ones relating to business activities are posted on the e-Portal as “licenses”.Top

What information are available in this e-Portal?:
You can search and obtain information about Business Licenses in Nepal via this e-Portal. You can also select licenses, view what documents you need to submit and what you need to do to get the license. You may refer to Browse License page to view the list of licenses.Top

Can I submit applications online?:
Not yet, but this is planned for selected licenses in the future. Once the transactional system is launched, you will be able to submit your documents for a license online, and you will be able to check the status of your application.Top

Who is managing the e-Portal?:
The e-Portal is an initiative of the Government of Nepal’s Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the National Information Technology Center, with the cooperation of all government bodies that issue licenses. The e-Portal is supported by the International Finance Corporation.Top

How to change preferred Language?:
The e-portal can be viewed in 2 types of languages which are English and Nepali. By default, the portal will be displayed in English. If you want to view the e-Portal in Nepal click on the “??????” icon on the top right of the page, and on “ENG” icon if you want the page to be displayed in English. The e-Portal will be refreshed according to the selected language.Top

Who are the users of this e-Portal?:
Users include the public user, business persons, government agencies, academicians, aspiring entrepreneurs and System Administrators.Top

What are the features of this e-Portal?:
The e-Portal is a single platform that provides information on the licenses required for starting and running a business, the legal basis, procedures, time, steps, fees and costs for each individual license. There is a facility to search by keyword, licensing agency, business type or industry. The e-Portal is available in both English and Nepali languages.Top
