Customs Registration :

Maldives Customs Service issues licenses to clients to carry out a number of functions in the Import/Export Industry.

These licenses are for Customs Brokers, Importers, Exporters, Shipping Agents, Local Courier Agents, Bond Keepers, Bonded Warehouses, Entry/Exit Permits and Duty Free Shops.

Applicants are required to download the form and submit it along with the required documents to the Customs Head Office reception.

Importers/Exporters:
Importers:
Any party importing items for any reason other than personal use must submit the following documents for registration;
** Importer/Exporter Registration Form (Can be downloaded from Customs Website and available in Valuation and Documentation Counter as well as stated in Appendix 30 of Customs Regulation)
** Original Importer License Permit
** Original Company Registration (If applying on behalf of a company)
** Original Vessel Registration (If applying for a vessel)

Exporters:
Any party wishing to export or re-export from Maldives must be registered at Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and should possess a license issued by Ministry of Economic Development/or any party allocated by this ministry to carry out the licensing procedures.

The following items can be exported and re-exported without an export license:
** Consignments with a net weight of under 5 kg (except ambergris)
** Temporary exports
** Items exported by individuals for their personal use
** Items such as containers used to import goods
** Corpse
** Temporary imports

Customs Brokers:
Procedures:
In order to obtain a Customs Broker/Agent License, the following documents must be submitted along with the Registration Form stated in Annex 27, of The Customs Regulation.
** Original Registration Certificate of the Company (an additional copy required)
** If the Company is in the export/import business, a letter must be submitted to cancel the C Number allocated to the company
** A written document stating that no member of the company (including staff and Directors alike) will conduct import/export business transactions in their own names.
** A valid National Identity Card of the applicant (additional copy required)
** Foreign individuals must present a valid work permit (additional copy required)

Application Form for Customs Broker/Agent’s License can be downloaded from the downloads section of the website.

Applicants are required to download the form and submit it along with the required documents to the Administration Section located on the 3rd floor of the Customs Head Office.

Under special circumstances, an application may be accepted with only copies of National ID and Work permit. However, the license will only be released upon the submission of their originals.

Customs Broker/Agent registration will be completed within 7 working days from the date of application.

Broker’s Pass:
Each Broker/ Agent Company is eligible to get 5 permits free of charge. Additional permits will be charged MVR200 per permit as stated in Annex 36 of The Customs Regulation.

Fees:
A total of MVR4, 000 will be charged for this service comprising of MVR500 for registration and an annual fee of MVR3, 500 in accordance with the Fees stated in the Annex 36 of Customs Regulation.
