In instances where the Missions are located in Male’ (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan Bangladesh and China), it is exclusively the responsibility of the individual to approach the respective mission to obtain the relevant visas.
All applications together with the Passport, Documentation, Visa Fee, Visa Facilitation Form and the Copy Set shall be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With regard to the Visa Fees, the Ministry will ONLY accept a bank draft instead of cash.
Visa applications will be accepted by the Ministry between 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs (Sun to Thurs) except public holidays.
Upon completion of the process, passports can be collected between 0900 hrs to 1400 hrs (Sun to Thurs) except public holidays.
It is the responsibility of the visa applicant to ensure that the visa forms are duly filled, and that all documents are submitted as per the application guidelines. The Ministry will not take any responsibility for any delays as a result of incomplete application forms or missing documents.
All High Commissions and Embassies have published visa regulations and guidelines on their respective websites. Please read carefully the information contained in the relevant website before submitting visa applications.
The Ministry uses a designated courier service to dispatch passports and applications to our Missions abroad, who in turn submit the visa applications to the respective High Commissions / Embassies. Once the visas are processed our Missions will retrieve the passports and send them back to the Ministry via the courier service. Hence, please note that in general, it takes approximately three to four working days to deliver the passports.
It is also important to note that in order to process the visa, some countries require necessary biometric details or to interview the applicant. In such cases, the applicant will have to present him / herself in person to the respective Mission.
To obtain the Visa related documents (Application Form, Checklist and the Visa Facilitation Form) and to clarify any information regarding the visa issues, you may contact the Visa Division or send an e-mail to the following address.
Important Notes :
** Visit visa cannot be changed to any other visa type. Prior visa has to be obtained before going abroad for medical or educational or official purpose. Medical visa will be issued when medical certificate is submitted and the student visa is issued upon submission of the placement letter from the university, college or institute.
** The Ministry or the Maldivian Diplomatic Missions abroad have no authority to influence the procedure of issuing visa. Respective authorities of the countries control the time limit of issuing visa.
** Since most of the Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Maldives are established abroad, the time frame for the issuance of visa may exceed depending on public holidays.
** In situations in which the visa applicant has to submit the biometric details, the applicant has to personally fix an appointment with the respective Embassy. Appointment can be fixed
through visa facilitation centers or from the Embassy’s website.
** The Visa applicant should be responsible for paying the visa fee. If the fee has to be paid via a bank draft, it can be sent with the visa application through the Ministry. If the fee has to be paid by cash, the applicant has to arrange the delivery of cash to the respective Embassy.
