Registration types available for online renewal:
** Registrations for passenger vehicles can be renewed online at this time. However, restrictions may apply to some vehicles. See the full list of vehicles.
** Leased vehicles can now be renewed online. However, leased vehicle owners will not be able to update or change the address on the registration. Your registration will be mailed to the address that appears on your current registration. If this is the address of the leasing company, you may need to contact the leasing company to obtain a copy of your new registration and decals.
To process your renewal, you will need:
** Your current vehicle registration or renewal notice
** Your current vehicle insurance card
** A credit card and billing address
** A printer connected to your computer in order to print your receipt
Municipal tax restrictions:
If you pay property taxes to one of the following towns for your vehicle, you may not use this online renewal service due to municipal tax clearance requirements (RI Gen. Laws 31-3-6). For more information, please contact your local town hall.
** Barrington
** Central Falls
** Exeter
** Warren
Boat Registration Renewal:
Rhode Island registers boats on a biennial (2-year) basis with an option to register boats greater than thirty feet on an annual basis for one half the biennial fee. A registration year is March 1st through the last day of February of the following year. Registration fees are not pro-rated and are non-refundable.
Upon completion of your online renewal, you will be able to print a TEMPORARY registration. This temporary registration will allow you to use your vessel during the 2-week period while your registration is being processed and the decal mailed. Please carry your registration while the boat is in use.
What you will need to complete your boat registration renewal:
** A credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover) to pay for registration renewal fees.
** The boat owner’s last name OR the zipcode on the boat registration.
** The date of birth of the boat owner
** Your boat registration number: This number can be found at the top of your boat registration certificate.
