DOL Get your WA identification card
To apply for a ID card:
Pre-apply online and save time in the office.
Finish your application at a driver licensing office.

Bring the following with you:
** Proof of identity, including your out-of-state license.
** Payment for the fee.
** Have your photo taken.
** Before we take your photo, we’ll ask you to remove anything that covers your face or head (like a hat or sunglasses). We’ll make exceptions for medical and religious reasons.
** We use facial recognition technology to help prevent identity theft. This biometric technology focuses on facial features that aren’t easy to alter, such as eye sockets, cheekbones, and the sides of the mouth. It measures characteristics such as the distance between pupils and the size and shape of facial features. To learn more, see:

Replace a lost ID card:
If your ID card is lost or stolen, you may get a replacement:
Online.
At a driver licensing office.
At a self-service station (kiosk).
You may replace your ID card if:
We have your current address on file.
and
Your card hasn’t expired.
If your ID card will expire within 90 days, you should renew it instead of replacing it.
Replacing your ID card online:
You may replace your ID card online if you haven’t replaced or renewed your card online in the past 12 months.
Pay the fee.
The online printed receipt won’t have your photo and isn’t valid identification.
Your new card:
Will be mailed within 7–10 days. If you don’t get it within 45 days, contact us at drivers@dol.wa.gov.
Will show the last photo we took in an office.
Replacing your ID card at an office:
You may get a replacement ID card at any driver licensing office.
Bring along:
** Your proof of identity.
** Pay the fee.
Your new card:
** Will be mailed within 7–10 days. If you don’t get it within 45 days, contact us at drivers@dol.wa.gov.
** Will have a new photo.
Using a self-service station:
Some of our offices have self-service stations you may use to replace your ID card. Because our self-service stations are the same as renewing online:
You may replace your ID card if:
** We have your current address on file.
** and
** Your card hasn’t expired.
** (If it will expire within 90 days, then you should renew it instead of replacing it.)
** Pay the fee.
The self-service station’s printed receipt won’t have your photo and isn’t valid identification.
Your new card:
