Client Number:
This is your unique identifier. Please quote this number whenever you call or write us.

Program:
Each number (1 through 14) represents a medical benefit or service. For more information about each of these, see Programs of Choice.

Group A

Identifies your coverage for each of the Programs of Choice.
A – If an “A” is indicated under a Program number, then treatment benefits obtained in Canada or elsewhere which are directly related to your disability benefit condition(s) may be covered by VAC. Many benefits require pre-authorization by VAC. Ask your provider to contact us.
B – If a “B” is indicated under a Program number, you may be eligible for treatment benefits obtained in Canada based on a demonstrated health need. However, your provider must first bill the appropriate provincial health program for the portion of the benefit that is covered by your province. If you also have private health insurance, either you or your providers(s) must submit your claim for payment through this insurance. VAC is considered to be the last payer and will cover any remaining amounts.
A and B – If “A” and “B” are listed under a Program number your eligibility for this treatment benefit will depend on several factors such as your disability benefit condition(s) and provincial and private health coverage.
No letter – If neither “A” nor “B” appears under a Program number, you are not eligible for this treatment benefit.
Veterans Independence Program – when “VIP” appears below “Group” it indicates that you have qualified for additional services through the Veterans Independence Program.

Client Info:
Our telephone number. If you have questions about your coverage, please call us.

Using your VAC Health Identification Card:
To obtain benefits or services, usually, all you will need to do is to present your VAC health card to a health-care services provider. To ensure VAC coverage, the provider may also need a prescription from your doctor or medical professional and, if required, your pre-authorization from VAC.

Using a registered provider:
If your provider is registered with VAC, they will bill us directly. For most benefits, your provider will need your signature to confirm that you received their services. It is important that you only sign after you have received the service.

Using any other provider:
You will need to pay this type of provider directly for their benefits or services. To receive reimbursement, you must submit your proof of payment (original receipt or paid invoice).

Frequencies and Dollar Limits:
There are frequency and dollar limits for most of our treatment benefits. In some circumstances, your request for coverage may be declined or reduced in amount if the requested amount exceeds our frequency or dollar limits. For more information on specific limits for each Program of Choice, please see our Benefit Grids.

Travel outside your province:
Your VAC Health Identification card can be used in all provinces and territories.
