Apply For Your Pop Card Online :

If you are a Metro season ticket holder (including MetroSaver, 16-18 MetroSaver and Metro Student Card) you will need a Pop card to travel on Metro.

Newcastle University students – if you are a student at Newcastle University, your Metro Student Card will be loaded onto your Newcastle University Student ID pass so you do not need a Pop card. You can do this at a Nexus TravelShop.

The easiest way to apply for your FREE Pop card is online, you will need to upload a passport sized photograph of yourself. Your Pop card will take about ten working days to arrive in the post.

You can also download and complete the Pop card application form at the bottom of this page and take it to a Nexus TravelShop along with a passport sized photograph.

You can now also buy MetroSavers, 16-18 MetroSavers, Student MetroSavers and Metro Gold Cards from hundreds of Payzone stores if you have a smartcard

MetroSaver :
** MetroSaver tickets are valid on Metro, the Shields Ferry* and Newcastle to Sunderland rail line. A MetroSaver which includes zone A can also be used on Quaylink buses in the Quaylink Central Zone.

** It’s available for one week, four weeks or a year and offers superb value if you’re a commuter or regular Metro user. It can be used at any time of the day for unlimited travel in the zones chosen.

** If you decide to buy a four week or annual MetroSaver you will need a Pop card. One week tickets are available to purchase from a ticket machine as a paper ticket or they can be uploaded to your Pop card..

** Apply for your free Pop card online here. Please note your Pop card will take about five working days to arrive in the post.
** The price of your MetroSaver depends on the number of zones you require – see the attached zone map below.
** Available at any Metro station ticket machine or Nexus TravelShop. Coming soon to Payzone stores.

** only an all zones ticket is valid
** You need a special ticket to accompany your smartcard to travel between Newcastle and Sunderland on Northern Rail. Collect yours at any Nexus TravelShop.

** Central Zone covers Q1 and Q2 between Central Station and Gateshead Interchange, and Q3 between Haymarket Bus Station and St Peter’s Basin.

How to buy :
** First you need to get a Pop card because this is what your MetroSaver will be loaded onto .

Once you have your Pop card you can buy or renew your one week, four week or annual MetroSaver :
