We are pleased to invite your upper secondary students to participate in the Network and Security Investigation (NSI) competition 2014. NSI, short for Network and Security Investigation, is an IT security challenge organised by Republic Polytechnic’s School of Infocomm.
Competition is open to all secondary school students.
The objective of this competition is to encourage students from all secondary schools in Singapore to pit their wits and guile to investigate IT crime and to secure the wireless systems.
Competition Schedule :
Phase 1 : Registration 18 March to 30 September 2014
*Special Early Bird Registration before 17 May 2014 $10 fee waiver/team
Phase 2 : 1 day workshop conducted for all registered teams 17 October 2014
Phase 3 : Actual Competition 28 October 2014
Note: The competition is only open to all Upper Secondary School Students
Prizes : Attractive prizes to be won!
Acknowledgement: A certificate of participation will be issued to all participants.
Judging Criteria :
Wireless “Amazing Race” Defence :
Competitors are taught the skills of building a Cantenna, Cryptography and Wireless communication defence techniques. Using the skills they learn during the workshop and on the actual competition, competitors will pit their skills and knowledge to detect intruders and secure their wireless facilities.
Cantenna Construction :
** Build Quality of Cantenna
** Aesthetics of Cantenna.
** Signal Strength
Wireless Rogue AP Challenge :
** number of wireless AP located within time limit.
** Time taken to complete the activity.
** no. lifeline used.
Digital Forensics Investigation :
Competitors are judged on how well they secure the scene and how well they gather digital evidence.
** Number of evidence items found
** Ranked quality of evidence items found
** Adherence to proper procedures
** Ability to convince judge/jury
Rules and Regulations :
** All competitors must be in upper secondary school.
** Each school may register a maximum of 2 teams.
** Each team must comprise of 3 competitors.
** Each competitor may only be a member of one team.
** And finally, judges’ decision is final.
** RP reserves the right to amend or cancel the contest or change these rules and regulations at any time without prior notice. Any changes will be posted on the NSI official website.
** All prizes are non-transferable and not exchangeable.
** RP reserves the right to replace any prize with an item of equivalent value without giving any prior notice.
