The service can be used with a combination of user ID and password, with a Finnish bank ID or with an electronic identity card issued by the Finnish police. For example, the electronic issue of notifications requires the use of a bank ID or an electronic identity card.
You can use e-services to:
** open your own user account
** initiate an application
** add supplements to an application
** pay for an application electronically
** supplement an application on your own initiative or when requested by the authorities
** monitor the processing status of an application
** obtain notifications of decisions
** receive notifications by e-mail or SMS of the arrival of messages in your customer account, for example concerning a request for further information, or notification of a decision.
You can pay for applications processed by the Finnish Immigration Service (first residence permit applications, citizenship applications and citizenship declarations) using your Visa, Visa Debit or Visa Electron card, MasterCard or Debit MasterCard, or use the online banking services provided by Osuuspankki, Nordea, S-Pankki and Danske Bank.
You cannot use a credit card to pay for applications processed by the police (permit extension applications and registration of EU citizens). In addition to the online banking services mentioned above, you can also use the electronic services provided by Ålandsbanken, Tapiola, Handelsbanken, Aktia, Säästöpankki and Paikallisosuuspankki. Note! These permits must be paid online before submitting the electronic application form.
Visit the embassy or police station in question, even if you applied electronically
When you have submitted your application using the e-services, you must visit the Finnish embassy or police station you selected in the service within one month to confirm your identity and present original copies of the attachments required for your application.
If you have submitted your application abroad via e-services your correct service point is your closest Finnish embassy.
If you are applying for a permit extension or EU registration you must choose a Finnish police station as your service point.
An application cannot be processed until the applicant has visited the embassy or a police station. You will not receive a separate request for identification. If you do not pay a visit within one month to confirm your identity, your application will not be assessed i.e. you will not be granted a permit. The processing fee will not be refunded.
If you cross the given deadline for the reason that the authorities have no free appointments, it will not affect the processing of your application. If you cannot find a suitable appointment, check again at the beginning of the following week if there are more available appointments, or call the telephone number for appointments at your local police. In case you already have an appointment for the verification of your identity, you do not need to request for extra time. Please state the time of your appointment on the page “Send additional information” within one month after submitting you application.
