(A) The following categories of persons born prior to 1/1/83 automatically acquired BOTC on 1/1/83:
** Persons born, naturalized or registered in Montserrat.
** Persons born to a parent who at the time of birth was…

** a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies (CUKC) and either..
** acquired that status by birth, naturalization, or registration in Montserrat or
** was born to a parent who, at the time of the birth was a CUKC by birth, naturalization or registration in Montserrat.
** A woman who was immediately prior to 1/1/83, a CUKC and was the wife of a man who was a BOTC of Montserrat.
** The first prerequisite is that the person was a CUKC on 31/12/82. A person acquired citizenship of the UKC before 1/1/83 through birth (legitimate or otherwise) or through legitimate descent from a father so born.

(B) The following categories of persons born on or after 1/1/83 automatically acquire BOTC:
** Person born in Montserrat if at the time of birth…
** either parent was a BOTC of Montserrat.
** Either parent was settled in Montserrat
** Persons born outside of Montserrat to a parent who is a BOTC of Montserrat otherwise than by descent.

Meanings of Terms:
Parent The mother of a legitimate or illegitimate child.

The father of a legitimate child.

Settled Not subject under the immigration laws of Montserrat to any restriction on the period for which he/she may remain on Montserrat.

Otherwise than by descent by birth, naturalization, registration or adoption.

BOTC Passport Fees :
Issue of Passport : EC$ 50.00
Replacing lost valid passport : EC$250.00
Replacing damaged or defaced passport : EC$250.00
Replacing passport lost due to fire, flood or hurricane : EC$ 50.00
Issue of certificate of identity (sea-man’s passport) – EC$ 25.00

Application Forms :
** Application for United Kingdom Passport Forms C1 and C2 are to be completed. These forms are available from the Department of Administration.
** Form C1 to be completed by persons 16 years and over and Form C2 for person under 16 years.

** Current passport (s)
** Birth Certificate
** Applicant’s marriage certificate (if married female)
** Naturalization/Registration certificate
** Two (2) photos (one to be endorsed by the person countersigning the form)

(A II) :
** Current passport (s)
** Birth Certificate
** Parent’s marriage certificate
** Father’s birth, naturalization or registration certificate
** Two (2) photos (one to be endorsed by the person countersigning the form)
** Applicant’s marriage certificate (if applicable)

(A III) :
** Current passport (s)
** Birth Certificate
** Marriage certificate
** Husband’s passport/birth certificate
** Two (2) photos (one to be endorsed by the person countersigning the form)

 

Passport Application Procedures :
** The issuance of British Overseas Territories Citizen (BOTC) /Montserrat Passports is governed by the British Nationality Act 1981, which came into effect on 1 January 1983.
** Before a BOTC Passport can be issued, the applicant must satisfy the passport authorities that he/she is a BOTC – either by descent or otherwise than by descent.
** If the applicant cannot prove his/her entitlement to British Overseas Territories (Montserrat) Citizenship then a passport cannot be issued to him/her.
