Qualifications Recognition :

NCFHE is the competent authority to recognise qualifications against the Malta Qualifications Framework. It deals with the recognition and comparability of both academic and vocational qualifications through the Qualifications Recognition and Information Centre (QRIC).

QRIC uses the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF) and the European Qualifications Framework for Life Long learning (EQF) to provide recognition advice on both local and international qualifications. It also assists in the recognition of Maltese qualifications abroad. QRIC is the local official centre also forms part of the ENIC-NARIC Network. QRIC serves as the national contact point to direct professionals to the relevant designated bodies for recognition.

Which supporting documents are required?:
** The original and copy of the certificate of the qualification (such as degree, diploma, certificate, etc.)
** The original and copy of the diploma supplement/transcript showing subjects, number of hours and examination results.
** Certified authenticated translations into Maltese and English of any documents originally issued in a language other than Maltese or English.
** In cases where a change of surname has occurred because of marriage, the applicant must also bring the marriage certificate with the application form.
** If the applicant is currently residing abroad and still require the assessment, an apostilled copy of the documents must be provided. A copy of these together with the original translation can be mailed to NCFHE.

Other requirements:
** ONLY application forms for the assessment of prospective qualifications can be sent via email. Application forms for the assessment of a national and/or international qualification/s must be delivered in person at NCFHE offices to be certified. In cases where the applicant cannot personally visit our offices, an agent can be appointed. In this case, it is very important that the agent brings a copy of the Identification Card of the applicant and a signed note of consent.
** Persons from Gozo are to take their original certificates and copies at the Education Department in Victoria, Gozo where they can be certified. The applicants are then responsible to send their application form and certificates by post to NCFHE.
** Persons interested in enrolling in a new course are also strongly encouraged to check whether this is recognised BEFORE starting the course.

Which qualifications DO NOT need a QRIC recognition statement?:
** Qualifications Awarded by Self Accrediting Institutions

By virtue of S.L. 327.433 Further and Higher Education (Licensing, Accreditation and Quality Assurance) Regulations, the following are self-accrediting providers, meaning that they have the capacity to self-accredit existing and new programmes and are exempt from provider and programme accreditation for the purposes of these regulations:

** the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, only for programmes up to and including level 6 of the Malta Qualifications Framework;

Thus qualifications conferred through the above mentioned institutions do not require an QRIC statement.
