FAQ :
What is the GAMBIS project?
The Gambia Biometric Identity System (GAMBIS) project is the world’s first integrated biometric identity management system. Through this system, the Government of The Gambia will capture biometric details for all citizens and aliens in the country.

Currently the GAMBIS project issues following biometric identification cards: National Identity Card, Residential/Work Permits and Driving Licenses. In the future, the GAMBIS project will involve: passports, Visas, birth certificates, death certificates and marriage certificates.

Why is there a new system for issuing National Identity Cards, Residential Permits and Driving Licenses?
The new system for issuing identity cards will increase the security of identity documents in order to facilitate legal, commercial, governmental and financial transactions nation-wide.

How do I apply for my card?
Applying for an identification card is very streamlined and efficient. Simply complete the following steps :
** Pick up an Application Form
** Submit your completed Application Form
** Complete the Enrollment and Payment process
** Pickup your printed card

What is a National Identification Number (NIN)?
Your National Identification Number will be listed on your printed card. This number is a unique identifier that is matched with your fingerprint. You should memorize this number and be prepared to use it for many different transactions. You must provide this National Identification Number to renew or replace your identity card.

Which card is more expensive when comparing the former National Identification Cards and the new Biometric National Identification Cards?
The pricing for the new Biometric National Identification Card is virtually the same as that of the previous National Identification Card. The price for the Biometric National Identification Card is an all-inclusive price whereas the card, photographs, and application form were purchased individually in the previous system.
